WEAPONS FROM THE CIVIL WAR

Here is a collection of images of civil war era weapons. The most used pistol by Civil War soldiers was the .44 caliber Colt Army model. This pistol, used mostly by officers and cavalrymen, was a revolver and had a major advantage over the single-shot muzzleloading, Minie ball rifle: it could carry up to six pre-loaded charges. The weapon's cylinder arrangement, however, often caused multiple firings when the pistol was shot. Despite this hazard and a rather short accuracy range of 15-20 yards, the Colt was a very popular weapon.
